Architecture
A gigabyte of memory in a workstation in 1996 is the whole point of this machine. It meant a model or a composite could stay resident instead of being paged against a disk, which is the difference between iterating on a shot and waiting on one. The R10000 was out-of-order and four-issue, so it kept working through cache misses that would stall an in-order design. Production houses kept these in service for years after they stopped being current.
